With Everton’s up and down season so far, there are a few takeaways for this club. One of them is the continued form of Tim Howard. At times, he can make the head-scratching play that makes Evertonians wonder if the American is expendable. However, saves like the one he made against Southampton on Saturday afternoon solidified his importance on the Everton team. On the play, Southampton forward, Graziano Pelle, was able to latch onto a volley off of a cross; Howard was forced to readjust his feet, and was able to palm the ball off of the goal-line to keep the score at 0-0. The save was key as it kept a clean sheet for Everton and Roberto Martinez’s side was able to claim a crucial 1-0 victory and important three points to keep them away from the relegation fight.
